Losing Weight After Having A Baby

We had a lot of Denver Moms due in November and December, Congratulations! We are very excited to be welcoming this first generation of Belly Bliss Babies :) Please send us pictures!

We often get questions about when it is safe for mom to get back into exercise after having a baby and what exercises are safe. We feel it is very important you check with your doctor before starting an exercise or Yoga program after giving birth. You should consider starting an exercise program when you feel up to it and have recovered from childbirth. Every woman's body is different and every birth is different, it is important to wait till your body is healed before starting exercise. This will also help you get the full benefits from exercise as you will be able to put your full energy and strength into your program. For some moms a few days may be enough time to heal, for other moms a few weeks or months may be necessary.

Of course all moms want to lose their tummy and I often find them over working their abs and neglecting other parts of their body. The best way to loose weight is to do a full body workout building cardio, strength and flexibility. I know we have all heard this before and it is not different after pregnancy, if anything it is more important. You have now had three bodies in the past year and it can be an adjustment working in this new one. Keeping your body balanced and strong is not only important for you to maintain your figure but to also help you take on the demanding lifestyle of being a mom! You will now be carrying a baby with you most everywhere you go, sometimes you will have them on your shoulders, other times on you back or in a sling and other times in a car seat which you will have to carry up the stairs and lift into cars. How does this change the importance of your strength and in what areas of your body? You will also be bending over more, picking things up, laying the baby down, how does this effect the importance of strength in your legs. Building an strong body all over is extremely important for motherhood. The good news is, in getting stronger for these new daily tasks, adding in some cardio and flexibility training you will get you body back, have more energy and be able to cope with your new lifestyle better.

Yoga not only builds strength, increases your heart rate, burns calories and increases flexibility. Yoga is an important part of a workout routine that includes weight and strength training.

After checking with your doctor and recovering it is safe to begin a balanced workout routine. If you were working out or practicing Yoga prior to pregnancy and during pregnancy it may be easier to get back into your routine. If you were not, do not hesitate to start now, it is never too late and you will feel much better for you and your baby!
